Neil Perry

Neil Perry's pan-fried ocean trout with creamed lentils!
This amazing recipe is from good food by Neil Perry and my favourite part about it is the creamed lentils. This recipe is great the way it is, however I always leave out the bacon and use vegetable stock instead of chicken. I also tend to add a bit more thyme, basil, chives, and sometimes extra fresh lemon juice too. Neil Perry's recipe also calls you to process part of the dish to form a puree that will be mixed with the remainder of the dish, I usually don't bother with this step and it still tastes fantastic. On top of these tweeks you can also use coconut cream instead of normal cream and skip out on the butter to make a beautiful vegan lentil dish.
Another amazing recipe from the good food book is the crispy skin salmon with braised chickpeas and herbed yoghurt. The chickpea dish is so simple and easy to make and can serves as the perfect accompaniment to many proteins. Like the lentils, it is a great staple dish for vegetarians and vegans as chickpeas provide a good source of dietary fiber, potassium and protein. The herbed yoghurt packs a real zing with the lemon which freshens up the whole dish and is exactly what you want especially when you are having fish. Neil Perry's book good food has so many more recipes including soups, pastas, pies, salads and desserts, it also includes great food photography by Earl Carter.

Banana Blossom

I discovered this amazing restaurant called Banana Blossom today while out with the family in Mona Vale. They make healthy Asian salads that taste absolutely amazing and I had their "Tokyo Classic" with Tofu which also comes with a chicken option. The menu describes it as having Chinese cabbage, avocado, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, green tea soba noodles, Asian herbs, Asian salad mix with creamy white sesame dressing and black sesame seeds. This salad was super healthy, delicious, vegetarian and it only cost $13 which is a very good price as it came in a large bowl that held a very filling portion size. My parents had the Tripple Chilli Chicken Salad and my sister had the Coconut Chicken Crispy Egg Noodle which both smelt and apparently tasted awesomely delicious. These were also only $13 like the rest of the menu options and on my next visit I plan on trying the Buddha's Delight with Tofu which has crispy vegetarian noodles, green papaya, pineapple, Chinese cabbage, Thai herbs, crispy egg noodles and a sweet tamarind dressing. The Banana Blossom was obviously very popular with the locals as it was very busy despite being in a discrete location around the Mona Vale shopping area. There are also Banana Blossoms at both Cremorne on Military Road and in Manly on Market Lane.
This is a picture of the "Tokyo Classic" with chicken that came from the Banana Blossom Manly site on Weekend notes.
